9.Age distribution, by sex, by education authority, by language of
instruction, by province – 2023 ,2022 , 2021
HIGHLIGHTS
The data reveals enrollment beyond the typical 12-18 age range,
indicating potential grade repetition or delayed entry. English-language
students generally outnumber French-language students across all
provinces. Shefa province shows the highest student numbers. Both
language groups exhibit a similar age distribution pattern, peaking in
the 14-16 age range. Enrollment drops significantly after age 18 for
both languages. Some provinces have very few students enrolled in French
language schools.

10.Age distribution, by sex, by year level, by province – 2023 ,2022
, 2021
HIGHLIGHTS
This dataset shows age distribution across secondary year levels
(7-14) in Vanuatu provinces (Torba, Penama, Sanma, Malampa, Shefa,
Tafea) from 2021-2023. Enrollment is heavily skewed towards younger ages
within each year level, with a significant drop-off as age increases,
suggesting grade repetition or late entry. Shefa province consistently
has the highest student numbers. Data for 2023 is incomplete, lacking
data for year 7,8 and 9. There is a lack of students in year 14.

11.Secondary education repetition rates, by province – 2023 ,2022 ,
2021
HIGHLIGHTS
The data shows varying repetition rates across provinces in Vanuatu’s
secondary education. Most provinces saw a slight decrease or remained
stable in repetition rates from 2022 to 2023. Shefa province experienced
the most significant decrease, while Penama and Tafea saw slight
increases. Overall, repetition rates remain a concern, particularly in
Sanma and Malampa.

are higher than female rates within the same province. Some provinces
show a decrease in repetition rates from 2022 to 2023, while others show
an increase or remain stable. Sanma consistently has the highest
repetition rates for both genders. Shefa shows the most significant
decrease in repetition rates for both genders.

,2022 , 2021
HIGHLIGHTS
Overall, dropout rates in secondary education show a slight decrease
from 2022 to 2023 in most provinces. However, Tafea province bucks this
trend, with both male and female dropout rates increasing. Gender
disparities persist, with males generally experiencing higher dropout
rates than females, though this varies by province. Further
investigation is needed to understand the factors driving these
provincial and gender-based differences, especially in Tafea.
